: A Mandsaur farmer allegedly detained by police on Thursday died late
Friday night, sparking fresh protests in Dalauda and taking the toll of
those killed in protests to six.
Ghanshyam Dhakad's family and friends claim he was picked up by police and there was no trace of three others who were with him. Cops, however, said, Dhakad was injured in stone-pelting.
Farmers rushed to Dalauda in groups from different parts of the district as news spread of the farmer's death. "We have received information about crowds forming in Dalauda after the death of a man. We're rushing to bring the situation under control," Mandsaur collector O P Shrivastava said. Ghanshyam, of Badwan village, was reportedly taken away by Bhaugarh police during a spurt in violence on Thursday.
His relatives claim he was travelling with three others on a motorcycle when he was picked up from Bhaugarh Phanta Square. His family had no information about his whereabouts and went around asking after him until midnigh
Late at night, over 220km away in Indore, Bhaugarh police station in-charge Sanjay Singh arrived at MY Hospital with a limping Ghanshyam. He was declared dead on arrival.
Although police admitted him as an "unidentified person", they called his family to say he was injured in the rioting. Ghanshyam's relative, Rahul Dhakad, who works in a private company in Indore, went to MY Hospital and identified the body in the mortuary. The victim's father went on Friday morning. Ghanshyam leaves behind a wife and a newborn baby.
